The ICPHEP is a unique transatlantic collaboration of governmental agencies, medical schools, schools of public health, faculties of law, and not-for-profit entities engaged in activities of international reach primarily in the United States and the Czech Republic.  The Collaborative mounts innovative educational programs, research projects, and training endeavors designed to address the challenges of international public health emergency preparedness, including the legal basis for preparedness measures.  As the Collaborative prepares public health professionals, doctors and lawyers, faculty members and students in both countries the participants develop relationships transatlantically. It is these relationships which enhance and strengthen public health preparedness internationally.

Areas the ICPHEP addresses:

  • emerging infectious diseases, e.g., the present threat of an avian influenza pandemic

  • natural or man-made disasters

  • bioterrorism threats or events

  • radiological, chemical, or nuclear incidents

ICPHEP is uncommon because it is truly a transatlantic cooperative endeavor.  The internationalization of public health training, workforce development and partnering initiatives requires the innovation that this cross-institutional collaboration presents.
